Hi folks!
I figured it was about time for an update.
White Christmas at the Holly was sold out for nine performances. I played Rhoda, a dancer with very little smarts and even less shame. The best compliments I got were these:
-Someone recognized me from the production at the Cumming Playhouse last year.
-Another person asked if I was the choreographer (?!?) because I was front and center for the tap finale and “looked like [I] knew what [I] was doing.”
-An adorable old lady sidled up to me and whispered conspiratorially, “I just have to ask…Are you really a flirt like that in real life?” For the record: No. No, I’m not. I also wear clothes that conceal a lot more than Rhoda’s clothes do.
Next on the agenda is an original musical. I did a readthru/singthru in November, and there are plans to workshop it in February. I’ll post more details as I have them.
Also, tonight was the first rehearsal for the dance performance series at Dance 101. I’m super thrilled to be dancing Jerome Robbins’ choreography from West Side Story. (Thank you, Ricardo, for teaching this!) Lenny Bernstein’s music resonates with me on a spiritual level, so coupling that with the musicality of Jerry’s choreo, the performance will be a transcendent experience…and the rehearsal process a joyful one. I’ve sung Bernstein (Glitter and Be Gay, A Boy Like That/I Have a Love, Make Our Garden Grow), but never gotten to dance to it. This is really a treat for me.
